HarborShores Champions for Change Golf Challenge

Four golf legends will be competing in the The Harbor Shores Champions for Change Golf Challenge. Jack Nicklaus, Johnny Miller, Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson will be competing to celebrate the grand opening of The Golf Club at Harbor Shores, a new 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. This event will be August 10, 2010

Jack Nicklaus, whose accolades as a golf course designer and has a legendary career that includes a record 18 professional major championships will be playing and the event will feature the foursome competing in an 18-hole scramble skins format with rotating two-man teams.

There will be a limited amount of tickets for $50 which include access to the event, there will also be tickets for an Evening for Champions “roundtable” discussion with the four golf legends that will be held at the Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College that same evening from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. – tickets are available for $25. Tickets for both the golf and evening events are available online at www.HarborShoresChampions.com.

The four legendary players will be teeing off together for the very first time in a competitive play at Harbor Shores. Jack Nicklaus said “The Harbor Shores Champions for Change event is a great opportunity to highlight how golf is being used as a vehicle for social and economic revitalization, particularly in the Benton Harbor community.”

Harbor Shores Director Mark Hesemann said “We are truly honored to have four golf legends on board to celebrate the opening of this world-class resort golf venue and help us spark revitalization efforts throughout the community,”

The golf course is 530 acres and highlights 18 holes , it will beautify and enhance the popular vacation spot of Benton Harbor and St. Joseph. When completed, it will include 12 distinctive neighborhoods with a total of nearly 800 residences. The development will also include a wide range of recreational amenities, health and fitness center, boutique lodge and spa, marina village, including a town center, conference center, recreational trails, deep water marinas, retail shops and restaurants, and much more.

Developers of Harbor Shores say that this project will be a catalyst for more community transformation that will be environmental, economic as well as social. The project has already restored beauty to an area of Lake Michigan’s waterfront through rehabilitation of a local public park , clean-up of Brownfields and the preservation of natural wetlands.
